θ Adjacent Opposite Hypotenuse
OppositeAdjacentHypotenuse
Side names are measured from angle θ. The small square marks the 90° angle.

Formula

tan(θ) = opposite ÷ adjacent

The side names are relative to angle θ.

Example

If opposite = 3 and adjacent = 4:

tangent = 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75
