Athletic Performance

Simple Tricks to Improve Your Performance as an Athlete.

Do you hate it when you run out of energy midway through an athletic sport? What if you could improve your performance? It would be great, would it not? Now, you probably think that to improve your performance. You need to hit the gym or spend tons of money.

Yet nothing could be further from the truth. Improving your performance is an easy thing to do. Do not believe it? Here then are simple tricks that may change your mind.

Build Strength

Look closely at the fastest athletes you know. What do they have in common, besides their speed? It is their thickset bodies, which - being strong - allow them to accelerate fast. To match their performance, also build strength and, by extension, gain acceleration.

And exercises involving a lot of movement, such as power cleans and squats, help you do just that. Strength training is also essential. Remember to alternate between fast, light lifting and slow, heavy lifting for the best results.

Think Differently

Do you think your physical strength alone determines your performance? Think again. While it gets you moving, it is the mind that keeps you moving. For this reason, train both your body and, more importantly, your mind. But how, you ask?

Start by setting specific, measurable, adjustable, realistic, and time-specific goals. This is the SMART principle. Next, remain focused on achieving these goals through self-talk and visualizing techniques. Finally, create a routine and stick to it.

Eat Better

All the training in the world never results in a stronger, healthier body if it is not coupled with the right diet. But what constitutes proper eating? In short, eat a low-carbohydrate, high-fat, moderate-protein diet, such as the Paleo or Keto diets. Also, drink more water and milk as well as take supplements and legal steroid alternatives.

While carbohydrates and fats provide much-needed energy, proteins build body tissue. As for the water, it keeps you hydrated. Milk, on the other hand, provides calcium for stronger bones and more flexible muscles.

And then there are the supplements and steroid alternatives. The first provides trace nutrients and minerals lacking in your diet while the second stimulates muscle growth and strength.

Rest More

Strenuous athletic activity depletes the body's energy reserves and fatigues the brain. Without sufficient periods of rest and recovery, you start suffering the effects of low metabolism, exhausted muscles, and mental fatigue. And after a while, you do what is known in the sporting world as hitting the wall.

This is when your body and mind can go no further, or in short, they are burned out. Fortunately, there are two simple remedies for fatigue. One is a good night's sleep. The other is to set aside rest days when you engage in no athletic activity.

Prevent Injury

Even as you enjoy engaging in athletic activity, remember that it comes with the risk of injury. Forget this simple fact, and you will soon be nursing an injury, such as a torn tendon or ligament, or even a broken limb. For this reason, exercise more caution.

For instance, avoid jumping into an event or exercise without warming up first. Also, be wary of training outdoors when the weather is either extremely hot or cold. Next, use the right training equipment and wear the right footwear. And if you suspect or notice an injury, have it checked out.

Improving your athletic performance is easier than you think. All you need to do is do the right thing. Eat right, think right, and train right. And while you are at it, remember to rest and prevent injury.
